ISIS Assassination Attempt on Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Foiled

In the Syrian city of Qamishli, an ISIS suicide bomber attempted to blow up a hall where Christians were commemorating the death of millions of Syriac/Armenian/Greek Christians brutally massacred in a genocide committed by the Ottoman Turks during WWI.

The primary target of the suicide bomber was the patriarch of the Syriac Orthdox church, Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, who was presiding over the ceremony.

The Syriac militia, Sotoro, handled security. Three of its members died foiling the assassination attempt.
