Israel Invades Syrian Airspace, Airstrikes Near Damascus International Airport

Videos and sources on the ground around Damascus International Airport and the nearby military Mezze air base are reporting multiple explosions in the area thought to be the work of Israeli airstrikes, according to regional intelligence sources reported through Reuters. Israel’s intelligence minister Israel Katz has confirmed the attack, claiming responsibility and calling it “compatible with Israel’s policy.”

The target of the attack was allegedly a convoy carrying weapons from Tehran that were to be delivered to Hezbollah. Al Manar, a pro-Hezbollah satellite news station has linked the explosions to Israeli fighter jets. A fuel tank and warehouse at Damascus airport were targetted and no casualties were caused, according to Hezbollah.

This would not be the first time Israel has invaded Syrian airspace. Tel Aviv has been launching airstrikes against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) with increasing frequency amid claims by Israeli officials that Syria is no longer a country. When the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been mistakenly targetted by terrorists in Syria, namely the recent ISIS attack, ISIS apologized to Israel for the incident.
