Starting today, and continuing over the next few weeks, Twitter will be enabling its users to get the must sought after “verified” icon next to their Twitter username.
This is news because having the verified icon gives some semblance of trust in an anonymous world of influence and manipulation. In February of 2018, the Twitter Verified account announced its suspension of submissions for verification.
The announcement today did not come without confusion. While Twitter provided screenshots and written instructions for how people could do this, buried in their threads, they respond to several confused users informing them that the enablement will happen over the next few weeks.
The scale of Twitter is immense so while disappointing for those yearning for verified checkmark, it is understandable. Considering the impact that Twitter has, this is a much welcomed announcement.
